We got the prettiest frost this morning. Everything suddenly looks wintery and beautiful. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap a picture of my burly mountain man with is winter beard.
Another year has gone by and it has been so full of blessings. It is nearly impossible to count the ways in which we are thankful. Today we had the Knights over for a somewhat non-traditional dinner. They brought french onion soup and we had salad (with candied walnuts that Robb was especially proud of) and bread rolls and pumpkin pie, and later a delicious pan-fried banana dessert.
These little boys are growing up too quickly. Sometimes when Lincoln falls asleep in your arms, you could still swear he is a tiny little baby. Except that he weighs nearly 30 pounds now. And Zeke... He acts more precocious every day. And especially near bedtime.
So, here is the result of our first year of beekeeping. We didn't do an actual harvest, this is what we got from a couple of partial frames. I can't wait to taste it. And below, is another little honey. He is helping me make the rolls for Thanksgiving dinner. They are going to be great.
I just love it when I come around the corner to find one of the boys engrossed in a book. Lincoln is following in his big brother's footsteps and enjoying books just as much.
We ended up deciding to put a couple of frames of honey in the extractor after all. It was SO much fun. We all took turns at the crank (the boys were most enthusiastic). Then placed the extractor near the warm dining room window and watched the honey come pouring out.
Sabbath morning is a special bonding time for daddy and the boys. (Translation: I sleep in.) Robb captured this sweet, sleepy-eyed Lincoln pic early this morning. Then, when we were headed home after church, the little fella couldn't stay awake, so here he is napping in his church blazer.
While we were working on the garage today, Lincoln was finding new ways to entertain himself. He seems to have figured out how to work the honey extractor. Hopefully he will get to practice this new skill next fall when we do a proper honey harvest.
It is always fun to have friends over. Tonight Sherisa brought Emmarie and the kiddos ended up having a pretty good time. They bonded over goldfish snacks then finished off the night with a good amount of jumping on the bed.
I was such a treat to have Dennis back in town for a few days. We miss him so much. So we celebrated by going to Bacon and Eggs. It has been a pretty popular brunch spot for some time, but we've managed to miss it until now. Overall we were pretty impressed. Robb couldn't help but photograph his meal. Next we headed over to the Patisserie. Mostly because we just didn't want our morning to be over. But, alas, Dennis is off to the airport and on his way back to the big city. I certainly hope that it won't be a whole year until we see him again.
Robb has been doing some pretty cool stuff lately. One of our bee colonies took a major hit, and it looked like it was down to only the queen and a very few worker bees. So he went ahead and built a Nuc hive for them. He's going to do a little experiment with introducing a couple of frames of workers from another hive. We'll see how it goes...
This little fella has to be sneaky sometimes. Ezekiel is quite jealous of his Angry Birds toys, so this morning I watched as Lincoln snatched up a piggy and ran behind a curtain with his treasure.
So, when we set today as the move in date for our new tenant, we were aware that it was going to be a long haul. Good grief. Thanks to a LOT of help from our friends, we were sort of ready. Granted, we were still cleaning the floor and hauling out our tools... But here it is.
